KONGO - history
Kongo was built at the location of the former Motel Grosuplje. The latter had been bought in year 1999, just before bankruptcy, by the company Elektronček, d.o.o., podjetje za izdelavo elektronskih igralnih naprav, which is the major company in the wider Elektronček group. However the idea of investors was not only the renovation of a decrepit and out-of-date motel into a modern hotel but creation of a new type of offer of entertainment.
The important nature and role of the former Motel Grosuplje inspires us to blow the dust from the old records and look over its history.
ABOUT THE MOTEL GROSUPLJE
Motel Grosuplje was built in the early 80s of the twentieth century. At that time it represented the most modern motel on the transversal E7 and the main tourist-supply route on the way to the then Balkans on the southeast route. Looking from the architectural point of view, the object was considered a sort of extravagance and boldness for that time and represented a carefully planned and structured installation in space just next to an important motorway, also called the road of fraternity and unity.
In the 90s, Motel Grosuplje was recognised as the most modern touristic complex on the route Ljubljana – Zagreb. It was the main supply point and its location favoured it with one of the highest occupancy rates. It also served as an important window on the world and a meeting point for important people from political, economical and social life of the then Slovenia and Yugoslavia. The motel is also supposed to be the place of a secret meeting of the Yugoslav president Tito.

Independence of Slovenia had its beginnings also in the motel through important meetings – at that time of secret nature, which are to result in the independence of Slovenia! After year 1991 the Motel suffered great losses of guests mostly due to the situation in the territory of Yugoslavia, which led in year 1997 to its hard grounding.
After year 1999 Motel Grosuplje re-emerged as an important factor on the European path E7. In this year it was bought, just before bankruptcy, by the company Elektronček, d.o.o.
FROM MOTEL TO THE KINGDOM OF ENTERTAINMENT
In was in December 2003 that first information was heard in the public: »Would you like to enter a mysterious world with the touch of magic Africa, which has forever excited the thoughts and waken the desires? Would you like to enter the world full of adventures, music, entertainment, good energy, culinary specialities and kind treatment of every guest?« From that time we have gone through a kaleidoscope of feelings, events and achievements.
Kongo, equipped with the touch of mysterious Africa and with special offer, presents right from the beginning a different approach to the needs and desires of guests who seek pleasant, interesting and entertaining events in Ljubljana. It includes many segments, which provide our guests with a full-range offer. Kongo, Hotel & Casino, Grosuplje strictly follows its mission, which is to offer a different kind of entertainment on the outskirt of the Slovenian capital. Gaming salon Kongo is the only gaming salon in the central Slovenia, which is adapted to American model of gaming. In this model such form of spending free time is represented as far from hazard and offered as an active entertainment. For this purpose our gaming offer is added by events in the hall .Tam. Tam. Besides, we provide you with a specific culinary pleasures.
INTERESTING INFORMATION
Surveys carried out indicate that our guests are very pleased with our offer as well as with services. In the first year we had more than 120,000 guests, which is in average 330 per day. This number raised in the last month of the first year of operation to over 500 guests per day. So in year 2004 our gambling salon exceeded the expected plan.
In the first year of operation we paid out more than € 15,36 million. The highest one-off prize was disbursed in December 2004 in the amount of € 40,000.
In the first two years some hundred of thousand guests paid us the visit. Only the gaming salon was visited by about 200,000 guests and prizes of € 260,706,727 were paid out.
In the first three years, the number of our guests increased to 322,000. The funds we paid out to our guests amounted to € 9,490,082.00.
We can't wait to see the numbers on our fourth anniversary.
Kongo, Hotel & Casino is quite an acquisition also considering working places since it solves the problematic of unemployment. Kongo provides today over 120 working places.
